A vacation lifestyle

I love the idea of renting a place on vacation for about a month and settling in to relax and live a different life of sorts. Well, if you rent one of these North Padre Island rentals, then it might just be possible to live a vacation life for a while before getting back to the real world. A lot of people are taking longer breaks these days and often coming up with plans to start their own business in the location of their choice, and this looks like a great place to live year round. It might just be fun thinking right now, but to live there for a while and see if it were possible will be even better.

Do you really know how to 'live'?

For a lot of people, working overtime, commuting endlessly and living a stressed life is the normal way to earn a living. Most people don;t have a choice and have to live where based on where they work. There are an increasing number of people lately that are deciding to make do with lower paying jobs, less stress and live in smaller towns so that they can really 'live'. Wilmington NC real estate has seen a rise in interested consumers who want to live a good life, but not one where they are chasing money and deadlines all the time. There has to be a balance in one's lives, and living in a medium sized town is one way to achieve it.

Investing in real estate

When it comes to investments for the long term, there really is only one choice and that is real estate. It is the one investment that you should start thinking of and putting aside money for as soon as you get a regular job, so that in maybe 5 years you have a substantial amount to put as a down payment towards a plot or apartment or office etc. While stocks and bonds need to be followed more closely when you're holding them, real estate is for those who have holding power and can stay in the game for the long term. We're making our first major investment in an apartment, purely for investment purposes, and we're excited about the prospect of starting our real estate investments.

How about living in New Zealand?

In the past few years, travelers have been decending on New Zealand thanks to a slew of movies that have been filmed there. The entire country is absolutely breathtaking and all avid travelers have New Zealand on their list of must-visit countries. What a lot of travelers are doing is taking extendied holidays or even migrating permanently to New Zealand instead of traveling back and forth on annual holidays.

It's a good idea to plan a vacation to include viewing a property for sale or two, to get an idea of what it is like to live there. Costs of living are relatively low, and the local customs and culture are friendly and inviting. Take a look at this property nelson or this birkenhead property to get an idea of what it is to live in a home in the area. As with other places as well, you really have to spend some time there to figure out what will suit you best.

Outer Banks homes

I've heard some really great stuff about the Outer Banks region of North Carolina and really want to plan a vacation there sometime soon. The houses there are said to be really nice there and the value of property is rising in value quite fast, according to a colleague who recently purchased a property in the area. There is something quite special about having vacation home near the ocean, a place that one can go to as often as one likes without have to make any bookings etc. It's so much more fun that staying at a hotel each time.

Understanding real estate markets

With the real estate market being as up and down as it has been in the past, it is a time to really spend time researching the markets that you are interested in. There are lots of cities that might currently be facing a downturn but have generally have had very upbeat real estate markets in the past 10-20 years. Take Phoenix for instance, where the real estate market has been rising for several years due to the rise of the city as a commercial center and also due to increasing popularity of its well-known sports facilities. The Phoenix real estate is a good place to understand how the market works and to gauge at what will happen next i the real estate market.

Finding a good apartment

Finding a place to live is not always an easy task. We're in the process of moving to a new city as well as a new country and have to still find an apartment, which is no small task to do. In any large city, just to find an apartment that one likes and one that fits in one's budget can be herculean. New York apartments are probably one of the hardest to find, since the competition for good apartments is so tough. When we lived in Providence, RI, it took us a good week to find a nice place on the Eastside, close to Brown University, but still secluded and quiet.

Avalon Communities offers lots of housing options in cities across the US, and is a great place to start a search for apartments. I find that when one lives in an apartment community that is present in several cities, it makes it so much easier when one has to move, since they provide the perfect place to find a new place to stay. The company has built its reputation as only offering the best of quality and construction standards and were even awarded a Builder of the Year award along with several other awards for their buildings.

What's your idea of luxury?

Since we'll be moving soon we've been spending a lot of time thinking about what kind of home we want to have eventually, kind of an exercise in wishful thinking of sorts. While we're not into having a luxury home in the conventional sense, what we do want is a home that fits our lifestyle and offers us comfort and amenities that are on a high priority for us. We're not interested in having a huge fancy chandelier in the foyer, just because all luxury homes should have one as dictated by a decor magazine, but rather we want to have a world class kitchen with the best of equipment; a study/library with lots of space for our books as well as room for our collection to grow. In essence, we want a home that suits our needs, rather than a luxury home that we have to adjust to.

Our Dubai plan

Our plan for Dubai is getting firmer and our paperwork is currently underway. My first trip to Dubai was last month, although my hubby has been traveling there a couple of times a month since last September. I simply loved the energy and excitement of Dubai. It's people are warm, friendly and very welcoming. Overall, it's going to be a great place to stay.

We're still looking for an apartment as yet, and hope to finalize something on our next trip there, in early July or so. There is a severe shortage of accommodation in Dubai, although there are thousands of new buildings coming up, there seem to be more people moving there to occupy them as well.

Here's a pic that I took driving down Sheikh Zayed Road, which is one of the major east-west roads in the city.

Heading to South Boston?

When we lived in Providence, we used to visit Boston quite a lot and often we spent our time checking out the local real estate. The city of Boston has a great variety of real estate to offer something for everyone, but like most people we were looking for something with a bit of both. One wants the charming look of an older building but definitely requires all the modern amenities and resources of new construction. There are some really great south boston real estate options available with the Seaport Realty Group. With over 50 years of combined experience, the company had lots of really nice houses and apartments available. South Boston is one of the most dynamic areas of the city, with great sense of community and taking the best of the big city life as well as smaller community living.

To live in Baltimore

One city that I've always wanted to live in is Baltimore. Everything about the city appeals to me, from it history, to its proximity to big cities such as Washington DC, Philadelphia and NYC as well as lots of places in the country for weekend breaks to get a whiff of a country life. There are lots of great museums and art galleries in the city, it is a center for education and learning. While browsing a bit on the city, I found a site on Baltimore Real Estate that offered apartment homes in an area called Cockeysville, which is located just a bit north of Baltimore City. It's the kind of place that appeals to both the budget and the senses. With features such as an Olympic sized pool, valet trash service, on-site fitness facility, tennis courts and a gymnasium, it seems like a really great place to live.

Could NC be the perfect place for a home?

I've always loved the sound of wind and water; I find them to be very soothing and relaxing and the best method of relaxing for me would be to find a place by the water. How about a nc waterfront property, where you can find peace and serenity and get rejuvenated? North Carolina has some really nice options of places to live, with beautiful sights, quick access to all the major cities on the East Coast and lots of activities in the local area.

Reliance is highest bidder for Park Circus market

Reliance Retail has won the bid for the Park Circus civic market under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), after it beat out three Kolkata based real estate developers. According to the agreement, Reliance has 154,000 sq ft of space in a total area of 230,000 sq ft. The Park Circus civic market has 400 stall holders who will have to be rehabilitated. Only 10-15% of the total area would be kept for the corporation, and the balance would be for Reliance to develop a mall or multiplex or shopping market.

Retail sales slowing down

How will the retail sector deal with lacklustre retail sales and the meltdown of the sub-prime mortgage market. This sector of the mortgage industry accounts for 20% of all mortgages and if their rates continue to increase, it will lead to a lot of problems for consumers at the lower and medium spectrum of spending. According to Stephen S Roach, the managing director and chief economist at Morgan Stanley, “The bursting of the housing bubble has all but eliminated that important prop to U.S. consumer demand.”
Market experts are split on how deep the impact will be going forward. Some, including Paul Kasriel, chief economist with Chicago-based banking firm Northern Trust Corp., point to February’s disappointing retail sales numbers. According to Commerce Department figures, retail sales, excluding autos, slipped 0.1 percent. Kasriel thinks the slow sales could be the beginning of a recession that will last well into 2008. Following on the heels of no growth in January, analysts were expecting a retail sales increase of at least 0.3 percent.

Realtors use creative ways to lure clients

With the real estate market facing a bit of a crunch lately, marketers are using creative ways to sell properties. Michael Shvo of SHVO Marketing, a real estate marketing company says that he sells lifestyles rather than houses. Agenda writes about real estate developers are relying increasingly on marketing their services and creating "identities" for their properties, with glossy brochures, parties and gifts. Nowadays, realtors are not bothering with newspaper ads or floor plans, they are instead tying up with celebrities to promote their properties and their brand. Other ways that realtors using is Internet video tours, and online advertising which is expected to grew from $2 billion or 17.7% of total advertising in 2006 to $3 billion, accounting for 32.1% of total advertising in 2010.
One way to draw attention to a property is to brand it with a celebrity name. Donald Trump has been doing this for years, but now other bold-faced names not traditionally associated with real estate are tacking their names onto buildings. One of the prime examples—and a Shvo client—is the Jade, which takes its name from project designer Jade Jagger, daughter of Rolling Stones singer Mick. The Jade targets the young, hip, and prosperous in New York's funky Chelsea neighborhood. In the building's glossy and colorful brochure, Jagger calls the Jade a "fusion" of her love for "the rural beauty of Ibiza, the glamour of London, and the nonstop energy of New York." The brokers assigned to the Jade were cast and groomed to be as sexy and dynamic as Jade herself—right down to their outfits.

Dubai real estate

We started our search for finding an apartment in Dubai this weekend. We found some really great listings in the areas of town we like and in our budget too, in The Gulf News Properties section, which is one of the really well organized properties classifieds I have ever seen. All properties are divided very neatly by sale or by lease, then by part of town and then by budget. The prices are listed at the beginning of each listing and are for the entire year, so its easy to go down the list and only keep track of the ones in your price range.

The amazing thing about Dubai is that the choices are huge, and you can find a ten bedroom mansion or a studio apt even in the same building. The other interesting thing about houses and apartments in Dubai is that they usually have more bathrooms than bedrooms, quite opposite of what it is in the US and the UK. If a house has 3 bedrooms, there are usually 5 bathrooms (six if you count the maid's room). Most houses have family rooms and have one bathroom in that area, and one bathroom in the entrance hallway and attached baths to each bedroom of course. It's been in interesting experience so far and I hope to have it continue.

What is most important when looking for an apt?

What are the qualities you look for when searching for apartments? Is it the view from the apartment or the sq footage inside? Is it the availablility of parking or the proximity to the grocery store? The combinations and permutations are quite endless and in the end, one really wants it all, right? I certainly want an apartment with covered parking, one that is close to the grocery store, one that has space for a washing machine, one that has been constructed logically to ensure there is a flow, like I certainly don't like apt with bathrooms right as you enter. Even if it is a half bath, it should not be too obviously placed in the entrance.

Future Group to lease retail space to its competitors

The Future Group is closing in on an agreement to lease close to 20 million sq ft of retail space in the eastern city of Kolkata to other retailers, including some of its top rivals, such as Reliance Retail, Trent, Lifestyle and Shoppers’ Stop. Future will be adding approximately 15 million sq ft of space by 2010 and will then by then have 56 malls. The complete project is being looked after by Future Group's asset management company, Kshitij Investment Advisory.

Living large

I love reading and subscribing to home decorating and real estate magazines. There is just something so uplifting about being able to dream about the kind of house you want to have one day, the places you want to live in, ideas for vacation homes etc. One of the magazines that I recently read was Dream Homes magazine, which focuses only on million dollar homes across the world. The magazine has some of the most beautiful houses showcased and has a lot of resources on how to locate your dream home, whether it is in Greece or Mexico or Italy or anywhere else in the world. There are details on each city, such as real estate agents and offices, local attractions, nightlife, restaurants, historic locations and prices.
